About me, Keeper of Serpents
Hello! I go by Steph and I've been a reptile keeper since 2006; like many other reptile enthusiasts I've had a life-long fascination with reptiles, particularly snakes, since I was a small child. Not only by the unique body & appearance of snakes but also by their interesting behaviours and varied temperaments. I always loved encountering them around Vancouver Island while growing up, especially the native Garter snakes that I would always keep an eye out for. As I grew into my teenage years I discovered an amazing variety of reptile species that were unlike anything I had encountered locally. In my late teens I bought an Indonesian Blue Tongued skink (Tiliqua gigas gigas) as my first reptile through a pet store, then came a couple of Royal pythons from different breeders, shortly after I welcomed home a young trio of US imported Rhino ratsnakes (Gonyosoma boulengeri). It was an exciting but very challenging time as a new reptile keeper, the level of husbandry knowledge shared in the North American reptile keeping community varied greatly and was rarely scientific. It wasn't unusual to see reptiles kept in unsuitable environments due to common misconceptions and myths, some that persist even today. The good news is there are also many groups of reptile keepers promoting advanced husbandry practices based on scientific evidence and research, improving standards of care for captive reptiles and increasing our understanding of their well-being.
I still keep Royal pythons today although I don't closely follow the 'industry' anymore. I also keep Central American dwarf boas (Caye Caulker Island locality), Mexican dwarf boas (Tarahumara Mountain locality) and a couple of Coastal Rosy boas. Occasionally I have other species as visitors to see how I like them and to consider them as permanent residents of Serpens, or simply to bring in new species and more variety to where I live without the specific intention of breeding them myself. Besides the ones mentioned above, some of the other species that I've kept in the past are:
Red-banded Wolf snakes (Lycodon rufozonatus)
African House snakes (Boaedon fuliginosus)
Olive snake (Lycodonomorphus inornatus)
Mexican Rosy boa (Lichanura trivirgata)
Pacific boa (Candoia carinata)
I enjoy interacting with my snakes, and ones that live here with me long term typically have a laid-back demeanour, a curious desire to explore new objects and environments, tolerate handling very well and some snakes seem to demand my attention when they see me going about my day. I also like providing my snakes with various useful and simple features in their habitats to encourage them to display more natural behaviours, as it not only leads to them becoming more active and showing interest in their environment but also results in them being more enjoyable to watch and keep. Enrichment, in different forms, provides value to both the 'kept' and the 'keeper' and to me is important in not only practising better reptile husbandry but making it interesting and enjoyable.
Spending time with my snakes and observing the way they interact with both their environment and with myself, getting to know each one and watching as they grow in size and confidence, developing a new view of the world around them has always been a great joy to me. Hopefully it is for you as well, or will be soon!

Terms of Sale
HEALTH & HUSBANDRY - All snakes are eating frozen thawed prey including rodents and avians, free from mites and in good health. All snakes are housed in PVC enclosures or lidded tubs with access to multiple hide boxes and various clutter for security, coco bedding, perches and other objects to interact with, most utilize humid hides as well. If the buyer houses their snake in inadequate or very minimal setups that don't allow access to features the snake desires, their wellness and health may suffer as a result. It's especially stressful for snakes to be forced to live without hiding places or a lack of proper heat and humidity. Optimum functioning of metabolic processes such as digestion, growth, healing, reproduction and immune system are reliant on them achieving their preferred body temperature. I can't offer any guarantees of health if the buyer's husbandry practices are too restrictive or poorly managed. I may refuse a sale if I feel that it would have a negative impact on the well-being of the snake. I highly recommend reading and following the husbandry advice by ReptiFiles.

Price listed is for the snake only, paid through Interac E-Transfer or Credit card. Orders must be fully paid for before the snake can leave my possession. Payment plans are available if a non-refundable deposit equal to 25% of the order including shipping costs is paid. 90 day payment plan for orders under $500, 180 days for orders $500 and above. If the order is not paid off before the deadline is reached or the order is cancelled by the buyer for any reason, the snake will remain here and the buyer will receive a refund of what they paid minus the 25% deposit. In the unfortunate event that the snake dies, develops illness or cannot be delivered at all due to an error on my part, I will issue a full refund of the purchase price including the deposit to the buyer. No compensation will be offered if the snake dies during delivery as a result of the buyers actions; for example giving me an incorrect address, not answering the door when the courier arrives for home delivery or failing to pick the snake up from a FedEx Ship Centre within 8 hours of the snake's arrival. I'll always do my best to prevent issues from happening, however I do need you to work together with me to ensure your new snake arrives safe and sound.
